Campus News Brief 10/10/11


Hello Green Folk,

This post is dedicated to Kenyan environmental activist Wangari Maathai who died last month at 71. She founded and led the Green Belt Movement. Please take a moment to get inspired by her life and work here:

Green Umbrella meets this Monday, October 10th at 9:15 PM in Furnald Lounge. If you want to learn about and enliven environmentalism at Columbia, are thinking about applying for our board (link to application in opportunities), or want to get more involved in campus green stuff and don’t know where to start, please come!



1. Join the Columbia Green Initiatives Fund (CGIF) – Tuesday October 11, 10 pm

in the Greenborough House basement (604 W114th st., the first brownstone between Broadway and Riverside).

2. Final Manhattan Public Hearing on Spectra Pipeline– Thursday Oct 20th, Columbia students meet at 6 pm

Meet at 116th and Broadway gates at 6pm to go down to hearing with other students.

3. Screening of Gasland, a documentary about Hydrofracking – Early Next Week (email for more details)


They’re organizing a screening. Details in the works, but email if you want to stay in touch about it.
